The newly created award "Future Prize of health management industry" (Zukunftspreis Gesundheitswirtschaft) goes to maxiDoc. The members of the "Club der Gesundheitswirtschaft" (association of health management), cdgw, honoured an innovative start-up whose exciting and striking idea could in one fell swoop end the political, technical and economic dispute about the electronic health card. The cdgw is a business club for leading representatives of the health management industry. The award, which is worth 10,000 euros, is sponsored by the cdgw member Instruclean (a subsidiary of Vanguard). In the future, this prize will be awarded annually.

Representing maxiDoc were the two directors of the company, Nils and Dr. Holger Finkernagel. The main product of maxiDoc is a USB stick which the patient keeps and which allows storing patient files decentrally. The stick also automatically adjusts to the local language, so it can also be used globally. It contains documents of family doctor, specialists and hospitals; it can store x-ray images as well as films. Organ donor card or living will can be added as well. Access to the data is managed by a hierarchical rights structure. The most important data (emergency data) is accessible for everyone, reports and confidential patient information can be read only with a password. Changes to the files on the stick can only be made by a physician whose practice is equipped with the free software. According to Nils and Holger Finkernagel, the stick offers numerous important advantages. It can be purchased for only 60 euros, is available immediately, has already been introduced to the market, and is very easy to handle. Also, there is no need for physicians to purchase costly card reading devices, so for them the costs for software are between 15 and 40 euros. The stick's storage capacity is virtually unlimited, and because it works decentrally, it does not have to be connected to a vulnerable central server. A high data security is guaranteed, while decentralization eliminates the possibility for misuse.
Both the product and its presentation were received enthusiastically by the members of the club. Criteria for the award are the assessment of the specific project in terms of originality, creativity, networking, convenience, patient- or consumer benefits, as well as relevancy for society and cost efficiency.
The award ceremony is going to be held during the next club meeting on June 3rd 2008 in Berlin. Selected opinion leaders will also be invited.
Only members of the cdgw can enter the competition for the "Future Prize of health management industry". Currently more than fifty people belong to the Berlin-based club. Eight companies had applied with a presentation of their innovative business models to take part in the contest. Apart from maxiDoc, these were Holger Dettmann and Thomas Hufenstuhl for VAMED Management und Service GmbH Deutschland, Dr. Robert Riefendahl for the ID Gesellschaft für Information und Dokumentation im Gesundheitswesen mbH, Sabine Eidmann for Comprendium Structured Financing GmbH, Prof. Dietmar Enderlein for the Medigreif Group, Dr. Jürgen Kämper for via medis GmbH, Franz-Josef Richter for ahr Service GmbH and Sören Schmahl for iffm Institut für Facility Management GmbH.
